7 Exciting Video Games Coming Out In 2019

It may be September already, but there are still a ton of upcoming video games releasing in 2019 to get excited about. This is no surprise as the video game industry is booming. It is estimated 31.6 million people played videogames in the UK in 2016. This statistic includes PC, console and mobile gaming.

More recently, the UK video games industry has been valued as being worth £5.6 billion!

Shockingly, this figure is significantly higher than both the UK film and music industry.

Some interesting contributors to this success include eSports and gaming merchandise, however, console sales are high. This is great news for gamers and those working in the industry.

Without much further ado, let’s get into exploring six upcoming video games worth looking forward to. This shortlist will cover a range of Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC games coming out later this year.

Link’s Awakening

The upcoming Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is, in fact, a remake of the classic adventure-puzzle game. It releases on September 20th 2019 for the Nintendo Switch. With reimagined graphics, this is a modernised version of the iconic game Zelda fans know and love.

Boasting a charming artstyle, fans will guide a toy-like Link across his quest on the island of Koholint to collect eight instruments of the Sirens and awaken the Windfish.

The remake also features a few gameplay changes. These include a health bar increase to a maximum of 20 hearts, which will likely please players. Gamers will also be able to equip more items to action buttons.

There will also be Amiibo integration which will enable players to gain more Chamber Stones, which are used to make your own customisable dungeon.

Existing fans and gamers new to the series alike will be drawn to this charming game. Check out the official trailer below:

Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is in fact the fourth title in the series. Developed by Gearbox Studios, the first person shooter game sees players work to stop the Calypso twins and their violent cult after the fall of Hyperion. With the option to play solo or in parties, gamers are able to take control of one of four new characters.

Much like previous entries, gamers embark on bounty board missions, and defeat enemies for loot, experience and money.

The game itself will be released on a plethora of consoles: PS4, Xbox One, PC and potentially even on the Google Stadia at a later date. With a close-by release date of 13th September 2019, this is a release existing fans are sure to be geared up about.

Pokemon Sword and Shield

video games

The eighth and latest installment of the massive Pokemon series is only two months away. Pokemon Sword and Shield is set for release on 15th November 2019 for the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite.

So far, it has been announced that game will be set in a new region called Galar. Players will choose between three new starter Pokemon: Grookey, Scorbunny or Sobble.

As with the many entries before it, players catch and battle Pokemon in their quest to become a Pokemon Master.

There has been a little controversy with this game in that it is the first installment to not include all of the previous generations of Pokemon. This is unlikely to greatly affect many players enjoyment of the game, however.

In fact, the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield has meant the release of a limited edition Switch Lite in November. This limited edition Switch Lite will feature the designs of legendary Pokemon Zacian and Zamazenta on its casing.

Reports even suggest that the game’s region of Galar will be explored in the latest season of the Pokemon anime, to coincide with its release, according to Nintendo Life.

Death Stranding

video games

Death Stranding is the latest creative endeavor of the legendary Hideo Kojima and his studio Kojima Productions. Players take control of Sam Porter Bridges who must travel across a ravaged wasteland plagued with otherworldly creatures to save humanity from extinction.

The action-adventure game features a well renowned cast including Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen. On the official Playstation blog, Kojima himself shared that the goal of the game will be “to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society”.

The character Sam will use gadgets to explore the vast, open world. Avoiding masses of strange, otherworldly enemies will be imperative.

An innovative game which will most likely be worth the investment, Death Stranding will release on 8th November 2019 on the PS4.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

video games

It has been six years since Luigi’s Mansion 2 came out. The third game in this series, Luigi’s Mansion 3, is set for release on the Nintendo Switch on a spooky release date of 31st October 2019. Luigi is back once again to blow away ghosts with his trusty Poltergeist G-OO vacuum cleaner when a relaxing holiday turns out to be a menacing ploy by King Boo.

In the game, players guide Luigi to explore the floors of the ghostly hotel. Luigi must overcome numerous obstacles and ghosts to save his friends. Luigi’s Mansion 3 will feature new tools, abilities and a new invention, Googi. Googie is Luigi’s gooey doppelganger which can slip through tight spaces.

Players can switch between Luigi and Googi to solve puzzles in solo mode. However, Googi can also be controlled by a second player in local co-op play. This is a great new addition to the game, and will likely double the fun by getting another player involved.

The game also features a multiplayer mode which supports up to eight Nintendo Switch players. However, this is a separate mode to the main story. Luigi’s Mansion 3 will surely appeal to fans new and old of this quirky action-adventure series.

Shenmue III

Deepsilver

The original Shenmue games were released for the Dreamcast in 1999 and 2001. Shenmue and Shenmue II were much loved by fans, and generally considered a cult hit. A kickstarter campaign to remaster Shenmue was widely popular however it was cancelled by Sega who instead released HD remasters of these games.

Shenmue III never came out – that is, until now. The director of the Shenmue games ran a very successful kickstarter campaign, and as a result the long awaited third installment of the saga will be continued in two months time.

Developed by Ys Net and Neilo, Shenmue III is currently set for release on 19th November 2019. Gamers will be able to play this game on the PS4 and PC.

Players take control of teenage martial artist Ryo Hazuki, in his search to avenge his father’s death. These games are known for their immersive story, fighting system and open world. Shenmue III will be no exception.

Just Dance 2020

A game that has kept it popularity over ten years, Just Dance is a dance rhythm game series. Just Dance 2020 will feature 40 new tracks, including popular songs from Ariana Grande, BLACKPINK, Cardi B, Lil Nas and more. The game will be released on 5th November 2019, and can be played on PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and the upcoming Google Stadia.

Interestingly, the video game is even coming to the Wii – an old console that has long gone without any new games. Some have speculated that this is so that the game will be bought and played by an older demographic. Regardless, the demand for Just Dance to be on the Wii is there even in 2019, so Ubisoft have met it.

Players will be able to keep track of the calories burnt through dance through a Sweat Mode. Co-op play is also an integral but not mandatory feature of this game that will likely amp up the fun.

Summary

Regardless of your gaming tastes, the plethora of video games coming out even in the latter end of 2019 is impressive. This list does of course miss out some crucial video games coming out in this time frame. These include: FIFA 20 (27th September), Doom Eternal (22nd November) and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (15th November).

Whether you prefer adventure-puzzle games or first person shooters, there are a ton of new video games coming out that will satisfy your gaming needs. While 2019 has so far been a great year for games, 2020 looks pretty appealing indeed.
